The town was founded in the 9th century and it grew considerably as the inhabitants from different areas started living there. The fortunes of the town have been cyclical in nature as in 1343 it was destroyed by the Tsunami and in the 15th century it was continually attacked by the Ottoman empire. In the 18th century, it became a major port and a place for business, however, soon after as other areas developed, the town was reduced to just a fishing village and many inhabitants moved to other prosperous regions of Italy.

The Amalfi coast of Italy is littered with diamonds. The town of Positano is a diamond situated on the coast. It has beautiful mountains and turquoise water with beautiful architecture. The roads are fabulous and small houses dot the mountains. It seems the whole town of Positano is on a steep mountain. The food is out of this world and there are hundreds of hotels/restaurants to cater to your wishes. I love Italian food, pastries, & coffee, and their ice cream. I have been to Positano twice and each time I enjoyed my visit. The first time I took a private car to go to Positano from Naples. The ride was smooth and the road had many fruit vendors selling orange juice and lemonade which were so delicious. The second time I took a boat from Capri to visit Positano. The natural beauty is priceless with beautiful trees and flowers.

I stayed at the Palazzo Murat which is a beautiful hotel near the beach. It was an old castle which has been upgraded to a hotel. It has a beautiful garden laden with oranges, lemon, and pomegranates. The woodwork on the property was exquisite. Spiaggia Grande is the main attraction for the waterfront, it is 300 meters and one of the largest beaches on the Amalfi coast. I would spend my time at the beach in the morning swimming and reading. In the afternoon, we used to go on hikes. There are many areas for hiking, and one of the paths will lead you to a tiny mountain outpost above Positano. A seemingly endless flight of steps and a small road that winds it way up the hill unite Positano with Montepertuso. There are so many places for hiking that you will not believe. You need to walk a lot while you are there. You need to take stairs after stairs to walk down the beach or to go anywhere in Positano as the town is on a mountain. The morning coffee was refreshing with pastry, and the afternoon was reserved for orange juice or Italian ice cream. I eat so much while I am there as everything was fresh. I think at least once in your life time, you need to visit “Positano” and I can assure you that you will not be regret your decision. When I was at the beach, I would always carry my designed beach bag which has enough space for my gear plus it repels sand. If you are interested in buying the bag, please visit sunsand-sea.com.
