I have gone to this beautiful island couple of times and I have always enjoyed it. The beautiful sand and the turquoise water are exceptional. I stayed at the Club Med the first time I visited the island; however, I have reverted to Beaches on my second trip. Beaches is on Grace Bay which is supposed to be the most beautiful part of the island. You will see so many fishes just near the beach, there are a couple of reefs near the beach which is an added attraction. The food is excellent at the resort. We stayed at in the French village in one trip and the Italian village in the most recent trip.
I usually spend from 6-8 hours on the beach, which was fantastic. The time was divided into swimming, reading, walking, & snorkeling. Every afternoon, we would take a boat ride to go to a new reef for snorkeling. The reefs were healthy and you could see different varieties of fishes around there. I wanted to do scuba diving too, however, you need to take classes in order to dive. I did take one class, however, the oxygen cylinder, the big mask, plus the added weight belt that you need to wear was not something I wanted to do. I love swimming, so I prefer to use the swimming goggles, and I also don’t like flippers as they make your swimming rhythm abnormal. When I am swimming, I feel light and full of energy to explore the water. Once you have all these added fixtures on your body, you lose the feeling of lightness and energy. We saw lots of sharks and dolphin as we were exploring the waters off Grace Bay. The water temperature is perfect to swim. You would really love the water as the reefs in front of Grace Bay make the water very tranquil and waves are not rough at all. It seems like a huge swimming pool, so the small kids and babies can feel the salty water and the buoyancy it offers. At the beach, I had my own designed beach bag which makes it easier to carry all my gear plus it repels sand. If you are interested in buying the bag, please visit sunsand-sea.com. I would implore everybody to go there and enjoy the pristine beach. We also took a private excursion trip on a boat where we visited many inhabited islands and caught fish and lobsters which we ate later for lunch. The lobster and the fish were prepared by the captain of the boat and they were both delicious. The service at the resort is quite good and you will enjoy all the restaurants and shops that cater to the guest. I have been visiting the island for the last twenty years and every time I come here, I see massive erosion by the sea which is directly linked to global warming. Even the Beaches resort has been cut into half the size it was before, and you would see many palm trees’ roots being destroyed by the salt water. We need to act quickly to stop this disaster from completely destroying the natural beauty of the island. Also the hurricanes have been hitting the island with more ferocity than in previous years which is also linked to global warming. We need to act now.
